Mandated Illinois School Closure

Mandated School Closure Update

Members of the Alton Education Association
Right now we are at an unprecedented time in our country and education system. Governor J.B. Pritzker made an important announcement at the end of the day Friday, March 13th to close all Illinois public and private schools from March 17 through March 30. It will be determined later as this situation develops if that timeline is feasible.
What makes this so different from so many other situations we have faced in the past is the uncertainty of how all things will develop. The AEA realizes how the uncertainty of this is making everyone anxious of what might and could happen. Therefore, the AEA and the Alton District do not want to make quick decisions without giving this matter proper thought and perspective. Please remain patient as we work with the District on this matter. On Monday morning the AEA and District officials will meet to discuss the plan moving forward. The AEA will focus to keep its members' needs at the forefront of that conversation, as well as being mindful of our students and all stakeholders within the Alton School District.
We understand this is a stressful time, and we want to assure all of our members we are trying to gather information and data to make the best possible suggestions and find the best possible plan for this time.
One thing we know for sure, employees will not lose pay over the state mandated shutdown.
